Accuracy

We verify facts before we publish. We name our sources whenever we can and explain why when we cannot. We distinguish clearly between what we know, what we are told and what remains unconfirmed.

Fairness and independence

We give people who are criticised in our reporting a fair chance to respond. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, funders or political interests.

Original work and attribution

We do not copy other publishers' articles or images. When we build on others' reporting, we credit them. Every photograph we publish carries a credit and descriptive alternative text.

Use of automated tools

We may use software to help with research, translation or summaries. A journalist is responsible for every published story, and no story is published automatically without editorial approval.

Corrections

When we make a mistake we correct it promptly and say so on the story. See our corrections policy.
